Course Description

Orientation: April 22nd, 2019

April 23, 25, 30, May 2, 7, 9

Class times: 8 pm - 9:30 pm ET

English may only have five vowel letters, but it has around 15 distinct vowel sounds! This class will help you improve your comprehensibility and sound more like a native speaker by learning to hear and produce each of these sounds precisely. You will also study the trickiest consonant sounds and how to distinguish them in your speech.

All students will receive a copy of the eBook edition of “Mastering the American Accent” by Lisa Mojsin, M.A. to use as a textbook throughout the course.

This class has been approved for the following CEUs:

9 CEUs: CA, ID, MO, NM, NC, NV, OH, OR, TX, UT, WA, WI

6 CEUs: PA (Interpreters may only earn a total of 6 CEUs per renewal period through online classes)

Interpreters may apply individually to receive CEUs in the following states: DE, IA, KY, MD, MI, MS, NE

Instructor

Katie McKay

Katie McKay graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, a certificate in Spanish translation and interpretation, and a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Most recently Katie spent four months in Panama, where she tutored learners of English and Spanish, focusing on pronunciation and linguistics in both languages. She has worked with DE LA MORA Interpreter Training since 2017.
