Live Online Intro to Immigration Interpreting

Course description

LANGUAGE NEUTRAL

 This language neutral course is must for anyone wanting to learn about interpretation in immigration related settings, from apprehension and initial interviews to final hearings.  Interpreters will learn about the different way interpreters make appearances and the modes of interpretation used in immigration courts. They will learn about different types of immigration calendars and hearings. Interpreters will also explore the ethics including the role of an interpreter, handling difficult situations, courtroom etiquette,  do's and don'ts. All students will also be provided with immigration related  vocabulary, terminology and commonly used acronyms. This will be a live, online, interactive course. Each class will be recorded and students will have access to the recordings. The hour and half long classes are will be held Tuesday and Thursday evening beginning April 2nd with mandatory orientation scheduled on March 28th.

Meenu Batra

Meenu Batra has a master level court interpreter's license from Texas State courts. Her more than ten years of experience includes interpreting for immigration courts, US District courts and county courts in states of Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Washington. She also works as a subject matter expert for test development and test rater. An advocate of her profession, she is the president of Texas Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (TAJIT).
