Understanding and Mitigating Vicarious Trauma in Community, Medical, Educational, and Court Interpreting
Live Online Monthly Webinar
Interpreters act as linguistic and cultural bridges in high-stakes environments, including hospitals, courtrooms, schools, and community settings. While they ensure access to essential services, they are also exposed to traumatic narratives, distressing testimonies, and emotionally charged situations that can lead to vicarious trauma—the emotional and psychological impact of witnessing others' suffering.
This 90-minute training session will explore the causes, symptoms, and consequences of vicarious trauma among interpreters. Participants will learn to recognize warning signs, differentiate vicarious trauma from burnout and compassion fatigue, and develop practical coping strategies to protect their mental well-being. Through interactive discussions, and self-assessment exercises, interpreters will gain tools to build resilience, set emotional boundaries, and practice self-care while maintaining their commitment to accuracy and neutrality.
Understand the nature of vicarious trauma and its impact on interpreters.
Recognize personal and professional risk factors.
Learn self-care techniques and coping strategies to reduce stress and emotional overload.
Develop a plan for maintaining well-being in high-pressure interpreting environments.
This session is designed for community, medical, educational, and court interpreters seeking to sustain their emotional health while continuing to provide high-quality interpretation services in challenging settings.
Join us for this essential training and equip yourself with the tools to protect your well-being while excelling in your interpreting career. Register now to take the first step toward resilience and self-care!
