Part 2: How far must you lag behind? Improving your décalage
In Part 2, participants will focus on décalage. This session will help interpreters understand décalage and apply it as needed and in the correct interval length; it is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Through targeted exercises and increasingly challenging practice materials, participants will learn how to manage information flow without falling too far behind or interpreting too soon.
Refine your simultaneous interpreting and develop greater control, accuracy, and confidence in fast-moving assignments.
While the sessions complement each other, attendance in Part 1 is not required for Part 2.

Meet the Presenter
Instructor
James Plunkett
James Plunkett is a nationally-known interpreter instructor and trainer of trainers. He is certified by the U.S. Administrative Office of the Courts for Spanish and and by the Florida Administrative Office of the Courts for Portuguese. In his 31 years of professional experience, he has worked as a staff interpreter for the 13th Judicial Circuit in Florida and as the Coordinator of Interpreting Services and Language Access Program for the District of Columbia Courts. He is a staff interpreter of the U.S. District Court in Tampa, Florida. He holds a BA degree in General Social Studies from Providence College. He was raised in Lima, Peru. He also communicates in intermediate French and basic Italian.
