Course Description

Course Description: With the objective of preparing students for the rigors of trial interpreting, the course will explore the terminology used in trials for common felonies through a mock trial setting.  Students will gain exposure to a wide range of terms, from the coded slang of drug traffickers to the technical jargon of legal arguments, and see how these terms are put into use. They will also have the opportunity to observe trial protocol and the proper handling of challenges frequently found in this setting, such as interpreting objections, correcting the record, and working as part of an interpreting team.
