Meet the Instructor

Eliane Sfeir-Markus

Eliane Sfeir-Markus, CHI, is an experienced interpreter, trainer, and industry leader fluent in Arabic, English, and French. She is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter and a court-certified Arabic interpreter in Pennsylvania and Delaware. As an Interpreter Expert, Eliane advises on industry standards, develops training materials, and provides guidance on interpreting ethics and best practices. Additionally, Eliane is an Adjunct Professor at Widener University Delaware Law School, where she teaches court and medical interpreting, as well as foundational interpreting skills. As a trainer with the De La Mora Institute of Interpretation, she co-designed and teaches the “Train the Trainer” course and the Medical Interpreting Signature Course. She also offers training in medical and court interpreting and delivers webinars on professional development topics such as cultural intelligence and resilience in interpreting. Eliane serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT), where she is Vice Chair, Chair of the Conference Committee, and Chair of the Training and Education Committee. She is also the Administrator of the Arabic Language Division at the American Translators Association (ATA) and a member of its Mentorship Committee. She is a certified John Maxwell Leadership Coach, DISC behavioral analyst, and speaker.
