Near Passer Program: Advanced Certification Preparation for Court Interpreters
Starting September 16, 2025
About the Program
The Near Passer Program is a rigorous, skills-focused training course developed by DE LA MORA Institute of Interpretation (DLMII) specifically for candidates who have previously taken a court interpreter certification exam and narrowly missed passing. These candidates have already demonstrated linguistic potential and dedication to the profession. This program is designed to transform that near success into full certification.
Why This Program Matters:
In late 2024, DLMII conducted a comprehensive analysis of over two years of rated interpreter exam results. The findings were decisive: the two primary reasons candidates failed the exam were (1) inadequate language proficiency and (2) insufficient interpreter technique. The most common indicator of these shortcomings was the high rate of omissions—39% in the consecutive interpreting portion and 49% in the simultaneous portion.
These statistics underscore a crucial reality: strong bilingualism alone does not guarantee success.
As noted by Brooke Bogue of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC):
“Candidates may have the best language skills and the highest education in both English and their non-English language of expertise. But if they don’t have the cognitive motor skills to move those languages in the three modes of court interpretation, they will not pass the exam. So I think it’s a matter of training and training the ‘right way’.”
The Near Passer Program is that right way.
