Course Description

DE LA MORA's Interpreter Skill Building program helps prepare future court interpreters for the State Oral Examination. This highly interactive course is designed for interpreters at all levels to learn our signature approach to effective practice and build your skill level with “Weightlifting for Court Interpreters.” Train with our engaging instructors to improve your note taking, memory, and focus in consecutive interpretation, and deepen your understanding and mastery of sight and simultaneous interpretation with our 21-day program for improvement.

Bilingual individuals who have a high level of proficiency in both of their working languages and wish to become certified interpreters at the state level.

Class Schedule

This training will take place in a virtual classroom via the Zoom video conferencing platform. 

Class will be held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings. 

Dates: November 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17

Time: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM EST

Instructor

James Plunkett

James Plunkett is a nationally-known interpreter instructor. He also trains new judges and court staff on how to work with court interpreters. He is certified by the AOUSC as a Spanish and English court interpreter. He has worked as a court interpreter for the 13th Judicial Circuit in Florida and as the Coordinator of Interpreting Services and Language Access Program for the District of Columbia Courts. He speaks and trains at state court interpreter programs nationwide and through online teaching platforms. He holds a BA degree in General Social Studies from Providence College.  He was raised in Lima, Peru. He also communicates in Portuguese, some French and basic American Sign Language.
