Webinar Description

Ethical decision-making in educational interpreting is not about following a script—it’s about understanding, reasoning, and applying ethical principles with critical thinking. Educational interpreting sits at a crossroads of specializations, where interpreters navigate complex interactions that demand more than just linguistic accuracy; they require ethical clarity, cultural awareness, and professional judgment.

The AAITE National Codes of Ethics have charted new territory in ethical decision-making, moving away from rigid, prescriptive rules and toward a principle-driven approach that empowers interpreters to make informed, thoughtful choices in dynamic educational settings. In this interactive session, we’ll explore how Communicative Autonomy and Cultural Awareness form the foundation of ethical practice, enabling interpreters to balance impartiality, advocacy, and professional boundaries in an environment where students, families, and educators rely on them for equitable access.

Join us as we redefine the role of ethics in educational interpreting, challenge traditional notions of neutrality, and discuss how interpreters can navigate ethical dilemmas with confidence, adaptability, and a deep understanding of their guiding principles. This session will equip you with the tools to think beyond rules and embrace ethical reasoning as a core competency in your professional practice.
